TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that terrorism was a threat to South-East Asian countries and as such Indonesia and the Philippines agreed to strengthen cooperation in the battle against terrorism.
The terrorism threat is real, said President Yudhoyono at the joint press conference with Filipino President Benigno Simeon Aquino III at the State Palace yesterday. The specific cooperation discussed was between the police forces of both countries. An MoU has been signed with a focus on fighting terrorism and trans-national crimes, said Yudhoyono.
With such a collaboration, Indonesia and the Phillipines can share experiences and anticipate possible terrorist threats. Both countries could exchange intelligence, experience, education and training. I think, said Yudhoyono, both countries need this.
The Filipino president agreed with Yudhoyono, saying that terrorism was indeed a threat to Asian countries. We appreciate Indonesias success in tackling terrorism, said Aquino III, during his ttwo day state visit to Indonesia.
